News: New Payscale

After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to change the way Neon pays the authors it publishes. Previously each author received either contributor copies, or a small fixed fee. Now, as well as a contributor copy, authors will also receive a royalty derived from sales, subscriptions and donations to the magazine.

This means that each author will now share directly in the success of the issue in which they are published – and should result in a higher average fee than was previously on offer. It also means that donations, purchases and subscriptions are more important now than ever, as every single one will directly support the writers we publish.

To recognise this, I’ve also made another change. Now, as a gesture of thanks to anyone who subscribes or donates, I’ll be printing a list of supporters inside each new issue of the magazine. I think this is an ideal way to acknowledge those who have helped make the magazine happen. You can still donate anonymously, of course, if that’s what you’d prefer. And I’ll be in touch with anyone who has subscribed or donated in recent weeks to let them know personally about this.

I’m excited about these changes, and would be happy to receive any questions or feedback. You can get in touch via the contact form, or leave a comment below.
