After a great deal of reading, sifting, reading again, deliberating and agonising I’ve selected the final six stories that will make up the next edition of Battery Pack. Here, without further ado, they are:
Colin Hill – “Making Love In The TV”
Jennifer Albon Burns – “Polling Day”
Lucy Yates – “Mess”
Andrew Jack Foster – “Kitchenmirror”
Catherine Edmunds – “Canaries”
Rosemary Harris – “Vigil”
I received over four hundred submissions during this three-month window, and enjoyed reading every one of them. Unfortunately there simply wasn’t time to offer a personal response to every single story, but I did notice a couple of interesting trends – I’ll be putting together a blog post with my observations shortly.
In the meantime I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge some of the writers whose work I loved but for whom there simply wasn’t room in the final anthology. Below is the shortlist of thirty-two writers whose excellent stories made the selection process an especially difficult one.
Kyle Hemmings Clive Tern
Paul Currion Suzanne Lively
Matilda Whitworth John Eckelkamp
M Amelia Eikli Christopher Hivner
Brooke Timothy Alex Shvartsman
Howie Good Julie Primon
David Mawr Garrett Bryant
Angela Sangalang William Stanforth
Jessica Gregory GW Colkitto
Maya Surya Pillay Olivia Greenwood
Sara Tantlinger Tom Smith
Natalie Beach Robert Stastny
Audrey Deng Liv Gamble
Lee Reilly Lara Byrne
Ellen Rusga Samuel Best
Charlie Galbraith Mark Carew
